 2024 Shaffer/Jay Family Newsletter

Windy-49 I had the privilege of seeing the Eclipse as my annual trade conference was in Dallas at just the right time. I was able to attend the International Double Reed Society Conference in Flagstaff during the summer and am really enjoying playing a variety of instruments in local community groups according to what they need, tuba, cello, bassoon and baritone saxophone. My kids are doing great and I really love and admire each of them for their own strengths and interests. Gwendolyn decided to play cello so that makes 3 out of the 5 of us cellists. Sky independently decided to resume playing Euphonium (Tenor Tuba) and choose to be in the Marching band. Cordelia is amazing with grades, dance and other fun stuff! And L is just blossoming as a young adult with school, work and friendships. What beautiful well rounded people my kids are!

L (Elnorra)-19 I'm turning 20 this upcoming year and that's crazy to me. It's feels like just last year I was preparing to go back to high school after covid. I'm about halfway through my sophomore year of college at Northern Arizona University. And have now officially changed my major to History with minors in Museum Studies and Comparative Religious Studies. This year has been a wild ride. I got to visit my roommate in Hawaii and go to Disneyland this summer. Unfortunately, only two months into this school year I lost my childhood cat Midnight. It was a very hard time, but I pushed through and eventually my roommates and I adopted a new cat named Gumdrop. He's adorable, but a menace. He loves to play fetch, but he will chomp on you when you least expect it.

Cordelia-17 Hey guys! At the start of this year I was wrapping up my junior year and was deep into audition season for the new school year. I am so grateful to have auditioned into Dance Company and Hyperion (the highest musical theater class). Summer was a blast, and I was able to just hang out with my boyfriend all the time and work a ton. (Talon is my boyfriend of basically a year now.) Then senior year started up and I have been busy. But I’m doing great in school and have decided on attending SUU (Southern Utah University) in the fall of 2025. I just recently had the opportunity to go to New York with Dance Company and it was such an amazing experience. I am so grateful to all the people who have shaped me into who I am today. Sky (Adelaide)-14 I'm almost 15 and I'll get my learners permit and learn how to drive I'm nervous but really excited at the same time I started marching band this summer I had so much fun I was hesitant at first to do marching band, but it was probably the best thing I did this year and I had so much fun. I’m so Glad my braces are off and I have two cats Pip and Chip.
