2023 Shaffer/Jay Family Newsletter

Windy Jay (48) 2023 has flown by. So many major changes this year. In honor of my mother I elected to change my last name to Jay. My oldest kid graduated high school and started college. My second kid is doing extremely well with theater and dance. Kid number 3 is coming into their own and doing exceptionally well both at school and with their social life. Kid number four is just my adorable little mini me and is growing up so fast! She is now in her last year of elementary school. I have four kids in four schools and no prospect of ever having two kids in the same school again.
I continue to be involved with Nebo Philharmonic Orchestra and play in at least two community bands. Last year I started playing the bassoon in orchestra and absolutely adore it, especially since I get a play next to one of my best friends, Denali Roper. I was gifted a baritone saxophone so I got to play that in the Payson City Band and still play my tuba in the Wasatch Winds Symphonic Band and my cello will get dusted off some day when there's not a bassoon part for orchestra.
I have recovered enough health that I'm at my ‘new normal’. Do I still have significant side effects and limitations and take a handful of prescription pills every morning and night. I can honestly declare that I am a survivor. This December will mark 6 years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer, my bone marrow transplant was over 3 years ago.
I try to find joy in the journey and enjoy each happy moment that comes along. This is been a year full of travel between scattering my mom's ashes in Ireland, taking my oldest on college campus tours, visiting my sister in North Carolina and visiting friends along that route. As well as attending both of my high school reunions and Southern Arizona for my niece’s wedding reception meanwhile hauling tubas back and forth to Flagstaff to work with my mentor. Loving every moment I get with family and friends. Best wishes to you and yours.

“L” Elnorra Shaffer (18) I graduated High School! Spent my summer between HS and college working, going on road trips and spending time with friends. I am currently attending Northern Arizona University (NAU) for Engineering and having a great time. I get along with my roommate, Tiana, really well. Especially considering we didn't get to meet each other before we moved in together. I have mostly A's and some B's. School has been a lot of work but I've been able to keep on top of it which I am grateful for.

Cordelia Shaffer  (16) Life is crazy busy but I wouldn’t have it any other way. School is weirdly my happy place even though Junior year has been rough. I still love drama and singing but I have found a passion for dance. I love it so much and now am on a studio’s competition team and I also teach ballet to 2-6 year olds, I love it so much and we always have a blast If you want to see continuous updates of my life throughout the year feel free to follow my instagram@cordeliashaffer_437  Overall life is good and I love the freedom of being a 16 year old girl with a car.

Sky Shaffer (aka Adelaide) (13) Hi I’m Sky and wow, I’m in 8th grade and it’s crazy to think that I’ll be in high school next year. I love my art teacher and foods class. It’s fun to learn how to make new foods and not just Mac and cheese. Hehe anyway this year has been pretty good and I can’t wait for next year to make new memories and friends.

Gwendolyn (10) I’m Gwendolyn and school has been so fun since I’m in 5th grade and so shocked that I’m going in to middle school next year. I’m in an after school choir class and I love being with my friends.
